Implementación de acciones enfocadas en disminuir la deforestación, índices de contaminación de fuentes hídricas que permitan contener la afectación de la pérdida de biodiversidad y el déficit hídrico. Articulando el trabajo con la sociedad civil organizada, la institucionalidad y autoridad ambiental. Lo cual permitirá avanzar en la ejecución de acciones de reforestación y restauración de ecosistemas de importancia para el municipio, ligado a la educación ambiental como base para la gobernanza.

Popayán cuenta con 468 especies de aves, que adornan sus cielos y armonizan sus paisajes, como un patrimonio natural para el desarrollo del turismo de naturaleza y aviturismo. Somos refugio para 76 aves migratorias desde el norte y el sur del continente, y lugar de conservación para 14 especies amenazadas de extinción. Contamos con diversas rutas turísticas para la observación de las aves, en haciendas coloniales, reservas de la sociedad civil, ríos y parques de la ciudad.

Popayán is home to 468 bird species that grace its skies and enhance its landscapes, serving as a natural heritage for the development of nature tourism and birdwatching. We are a refuge for 76 migratory birds from the northern and southern parts of the continent and a conservation site for 14 species threatened with extinction. We offer various tourist routes for bird observation, including colonial estates, private nature reserves, rivers, and city parks.

El municipio de Popayán cuenta con aproximadamente 10.600 de Áreas de Interés Estratégico para el Recurso Hídrico, las cuales surten de agua a las comunidades locales, dentro de recuperación y conservación de estas áreas el municipio ha adquirido 1 predios de interés ambiental que suman 348, 5 hectáreas, destinadas a la conservación, áreas que son cruciales en la protección del recurso hídrico y la biodiversidad con una inversión deaproximamda de 15 mil millones , además de su ubicación estratégica para la recuperación de corredores ecológicos. Contamos con Vigías Ambientales que realizan la vigilancia constante de los elementos naturales estratégicos en la zona y la articulación comunitaria en pro de la protección y recuperación.

The municipality of Popayán has approximately 10,600 hectares of Strategic Interest Areas for Water Resources, which supply water to local communities. Popayán avanza significativamente en la modernización de su sistema de alumbrado público, reemplazando las luminarias de sodio por tecnología LED en el marco de la Alianza con la COP16. Hasta el momento, se han modernizado 31.800 luminarias de un total de 32.900, logrando un impacto ambiental positivo. Las luminarias de sodio, además de generar varios tipos de contaminación, principalmente lumínica, también interfieren con los ciclos naturales de flora y fauna, afectando a especies nocturnas y a plantas que dependen de la oscuridad para sus procesos biológicos. Con la implementación de las nuevas luminarias LED, no solo se mejora la calidad del aire y se reducen las emisiones de dióxido de carbono, sino que también contribuimos a los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible (ODS), promoviendo una energía accesible y no contaminante, además de consolidar una ciudad más sostenible y saludable. Las luces LED, al ser más precisas, reducen su impacto en la fauna nocturna al emitir luz en longitudes de onda menos perjudiciales.

La inversión realizada para esta modernización asciende a $30.199.820.280, lo que refleja nuestro compromiso con un alumbrado público más eficiente. En la COP16, esperamos que las nuevas luminarias LED nos permitan establecer alianzas estratégicas para avanzar hacia un sistema de alumbrado público inteligente y ambientalmente sostenible. Este sistema incluiría sensores que medirían la calidad del aire, la contaminación auditiva y las emisiones de gases, haciéndonos más eficientes y mejorando la sostenibilidad de Popayán, con una mejor calidad de iluminación y un mayor impacto ambiental.

Popayán is making significant progress in modernizing its public lighting system, replacing sodium lights with LED technology as part of the Alliance with COP16. So far, 31,800 out of a total of 32,900 lights have been modernized, achieving a positive environmental impact. Sodium lights not only cause various types of pollution, mainly light pollution, but also interfere with the natural cycles of flora and fauna, affecting nocturnal species and plants that depend on darkness for their biologica processes. The investment in this modernization amounts to $30,199,820,280, reflecting our commitment to more efficient public lighting. At COP16, we hope that the new LED lights will allow us to establish strategic alliances to move towards an intelligent and environmentally sustainable public lighting system.
